Culturally Sensitive Counseling Support in Brooklyn!

Owning your story is not always easy, especially when your journey has been shaped by the richness and challenges of a multicultural experience. At Mahogany, we understand how societal expectations, judgments, and systems created can influence the way we see ourselves and navigate the world around us. For individuals, families, and children from diverse backgrounds, these layers often add complexity to an already challenging process of growth and healing.

That’s why Mahogany was created! Your therapeutic journey with us will be one where culture is celebrated, voices are honored, and healing is approached with care and sensitivity. Together, we will explore and sometimes challenge what you think about mental health, and the interconnection of your identity, values, belief systems, social expectations, and relational dynamics that feed or hinder growth. More importantly, we’ll help you find new ways to understand yourself and connect with others in a way that feels authentic and empowering.

No matter where you’re starting from, we emphasize the importance of self-compassion because healing isn’t about “fixing” yourself. Healing is simply having the courage and wisdom to know in order to grow, you must first explore!

 Our Speciality Areas

Teen Development

Supporting pre-adolescents through early adulthood, we use evidence-based techniques like CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care, along with creative methods such as art and narrative therapy that allows us to use their strengths to guide our work. Our approach helps teens build emotional fortitude, foster self-love, strengthen relationships, and develop essential life skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication that empowers them to trust intuition, develop their unique voice, and embrace advocacy towards their mental wellness.

Anxiety, Depression and Stress

Helping clients through exploration on day to day challenges that can impact our mood, while also understanding the differing symptoms and how they impact our daily life. Through a relational approach, we teach practical tools to manage mood shifts, empowering individuals to take charge of their mental health and thrive through life’s transitions.

Trauma

Through Somatic Therapy and Trauma-Focused CBT, we focus on the body-mind connection, shifting away from memory recovery and instead exploring how past trauma shapes how individuals perceive the world and react in the present. By integrating neuroscience-based techniques, we help release trauma stored in the body, reducing symptoms and promote healing from the inside out.
